I was born into Catholicism but not practising. I have always been on a spiritual quest though, and when I met my husband at age 19, I converted to Islam. Even after I divorced I remained a practising Muslim for some years. But then I found that I was being ridiculous: setting limits to myself on almost every aspect of life: clothing, food, interaction with men,... Also I started to critically read the myriad of Islamic books I had acquired over the years and found the beliefs and traditions even more ridiculous : why want to live like the Prophet Muhammad 1400 years later on a different continent?? So I just stopped being a Muslima about 10 years ago - being a native Belgian this doesn\'t cause me any problems of course. But I\'m joining anyway to support the people who are under threat because they made a rational decision!
