Statement

My name is Sikandar, and I was born in Abbottabad, Pakistan. From a young age, I was raised in a strict Islamic environment, with my parents insisting that I attend an Islamic school with the intention of becoming a religious teacher. Despite their expectations, I never felt a connection to Islam or its practices. I struggled with the lack of choice in my upbringing, feeling constrained by the religious expectations imposed on me.

At the age of 19, I moved to Dubai, UAE, where I began working as a software engineer. Now, at 26, I find it difficult to live in Islamic countries. My relationship with my parents has been strained; they are aware of my disinterest in Islam and its followers, and as a result, we haven't spoken in over five years.

Recently, I returned to Pakistan to obtain a police clearance certificate. After my return to Dubai, my cousin informed me that the Pakistani police were looking for me.

I am passionate about raising awareness about what I perceive as the oppressive aspects of Islam. I believe it is important to share my experiences and highlight the challenges faced by those who, like me, feel trapped by religious expectations.
