I am an ex-Christian atheist from the Southern part of the US. My first genuine interaction with Islam was with a friend in college who was in disbelief that I "allowed man to get in my head and abandon god." From then, we had conversations about her Islamic faith and my atheism and deconversion with Christianity - she grew frustrated after none of her arguments convinced me, and suggested I look into "the scientific discoveries in the Quran." I did - I checked out the Quran from our school's library, used an Islamic website that listed these "scientific miracles" in the Quran and read each of them. I was unimpressed and unconvinced, rightfully, and then started reading the Quran to understand my friend's beliefs and I was horrified and disgusted. I brought up the fact that the Quran and some hadiths justify pedophilia, specifically that Muhammad married a 6 year old girl and consummated the "marriage" when she was 9, and my friend said "it was with her consent." That's when I knew that Islam was poisonous to the mind and cancerous to society.

I'd like to join this organization to support my ex-Muslim family and join all forms of activism for atheism, secularism, and a society free from dogma.
