I am writing to respectfully request membership in your organization.
My name is Dawoud Jafari, and I am originally from Afghanistan — a country where atheism is not only socially taboo but legally considered a capital offense. Due to my open criticism of religion, particularly Islam, on social media and other platforms, I received direct threats and even survived an attempted attack. As a result, I was forced to flee and seek asylum in Turkey in search of safety and freedom.
Unfortunately, despite Turkey's official secular stance, the reality on the ground remains deeply hostile to nonbelievers. Social stigma and threats persist, and the environment remains unsafe for individuals like myself.
For years, I have been actively promoting secularism and freethought, especially via Facebook. My original account, active since 2009, was permanently suspended, and I had to abandon my second account after facing renewed threats.
