Statement

I am a humanist, also a proud member of humanists UK. I was born a shia muslim in Tehran, Iran, but had the privilege of open minded parents who allowed me to think and respected my decision of becoming an atheist when I was around 18 years old. I respect any human being regardless of their religion, but I think I do have the right to criticise all religions including Islam, which in my opinion is a very dominant, brain washing religion with many human rights issues if put in charge of a whole country, which is basically the situation in post-Islamic-revolution in Iran. I have currently sought asylum in the UK as I strongly fear the regime authorities are going to arrest and possibly punish me or sentence me to death for blasphemy/apostasy and propaganda against the regime or threatening national security as I was also involved in human rights activities for the people of Iran. I think the matter is not me as one person, it’s a whole generation of young Iranians like me who are mostly secular with a significant proportion of agnostics/atheists who simply fear to be themselves in their own country. By becoming a member I want to represent them!
