Statement

Hey ! My name is Marwa, I am a 19-year-old Moroccan young woman, currently living in Casablanca. I recently left islam after many many months of thought. I realised I was agnostic during a philosophy class at school: it sparked in me a flame, the flamenco of curiosity. I tried to find my way, to find what I truly believe, and I ended up after months of pain, of hard and though refletion, after a huge identity crisis of 9 months where I was trying to find my path, I found out I was agnostic. It is, so far, my biggest secret. Leaving Islam in a country where apostasy is highly stigmatized is incredibly isolating, and I often feel alone in my journey. Despite the risks, I cannot ignore my right to think freely and live authentically.
The work that CEMB does gives me hope. Knowing that there is a community that understands the struggles of ex-Muslims means a lot to me. I would love to connect with others who have walked this path and, if possible, find ways to contribute to the cause, even from where I am. Thank you in advance for your attention, I hope I can be part of your community 🙂
