Statement

I am a 21-year-old Moroccan atheist currently seeking asylum in the United Kingdom due to the religious persecution I experienced in my home country. I was born and raised in a deeply religious environment, where questioning or leaving Islam is considered both a social betrayal and a legal danger. As I gradually became aware of my own beliefs and identified as an atheist, I faced fear, shame, and isolation.

In Morocco, I had to hide my beliefs to protect myself from violence, arrest, and discrimination. I was constantly under pressure to conform—to pray, fast, and pretend to believe in something I no longer accepted. Expressing doubt or asking questions was enough to be seen as immoral or dangerous. When I did speak out, I was threatened, and I feared for my life. Being an atheist in Morocco is not just difficult—it is dangerous.

Since arriving in the UK, I have been searching for a safe space where I can be honest about who I am without fear of judgment or persecution. This is why I am seeking to join the Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain (CEMB). I admire your work in defending freedom of belief, supporting apostates, and giving a voice to people like me who have been silenced in their countries of origin.

Joining CEMB would allow me to:

Be part of a community that understands my experience as an ex-Muslim;

Advocate for freedom of thought and secularism without fear;

Show genuine engagement with atheist and secular values, which are at the core of my identity and asylum claim.

This is not just a group to me—it is a symbol of freedom, truth, and courage. I hope to contribute, learn, and grow within this community, and I would be honored to be accepted as a member.

Thank you for considering my request.
