Statement | I was born and raised in a Muslim family in Pakistan, but over time I began to question many of the teachings and ideas I had been raised with. I could no longer accept beliefs that conflicted with my conscience, reason, and the basic rights of others. After a long period of private reflection, I left Islam and now identify as an atheist. In my country, this choice is not only taboo — it is dangerous. Apostasy is treated as a crime, and speaking out can lead to threats, violence, or worse. I now live in the UK, where I am trying to rebuild my life in freedom. I admire the work of the Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain for defending those who leave religion and standing up for freedom of thought. I hope to be part of this community and support others like me. |
