It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of our dear friend and long-standing comrade, Asad Abbas.

In 2008, Asad was elected to the CEMB management committee, where he helped shape the direction of our organisation during its crucial early years.  He was an unwavering advocate for ex-Muslims, secularism, human rights, and freedom of conscience. A clinical psychologist by training, Asad brought empathy, clarity, and commitment to everything he did. He was a passionate voice for those who risk everything to think freely and live honestly.

His contributions were formally recognised at the first International Atheist Conference in 2019—an event that celebrated those who dared to speak the truth in the face of adversity.

Asad was a quiet force—steady and principled. He was driven not by ego or recognition, but by a deep moral clarity and compassion for those around him. His legacy is woven into the very fabric of our movement.

We will miss his friendship, his wisdom, and his tireless dedication to a better world. We send our condolences to his family and friends and all who who mourn his loss.

Asad, thank you for everything. You will not be forgotten.
