On Baroness Warsi’s comments The Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain considers Baroness Warsi’s recent comments about Islamophobia as an attempt to stigmatise critical scrutiny of Islam and stifle genuine debate. All religions should be scrutinised and do not deserve special treatment over any other beliefs, ideas or philosophies. Resolution against blasphemy and apostasy laws, 11 December 2010 The conference condemns the charges of blasphemy and insulting Islam against Asia Bibi in Pakistan, of criticising religions and promoting atheism against Waleed Al-Husseni by the Palestinian authority, of apostasy against Syed Mosa in Afghanistan and in Iran sentences of death for charges of moharebeh (enmity against God) against at least 10 people. Criticising religion is not a crime let alone worthy of the death penalty. Asia Bibi must be immediately released The Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain unequivocally condemns the death sentence passed by Pakistan on a Christian woman, Asia Bibi, a 45-year-old mother-of-five for what they claim to be blasphemy against Islam. Regardless of whether the charge has any truth to it or not, criticising religion is not a crime let alone worthy of the death penalty. Palestinian Blogger must be immediately released The Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain condemns the arrest of the Palestinian internet blogger Waleed Al-Husseini by the Palestinian Authority for exercising his right to free speech. The Palestinian News Agency – Maan – confirmed on 7 November the arrest of 26 year-old Waleed who they only name by the initials W. H. in the West Bank city of Qalqilya claiming he has been criticizing religions and promoting atheism and has claimed Divinity on his Blog and on his Facebook page which has now been shut down.
