A few months ago, we wrote to tell you that the Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain (CEMB) was facing closure within 90 days. You refused to let that happen. Ninety-three people became monthly donors. Many others made one-off donations. Together, you helped ensure that CEMB could continue its work for another year. Thank you.

Thanks to your generosity, together with funding from Awards for All, we’ve been able to continue supporting ex-Muslims while expanding our support programme. Alongside our monthly mixed and women’s support groups, we’ve launched a new Psychoeducational Online Support Group, led by Counselling Psychologist Dr Savin Bapir-Tardy. The group offers practical, evidence-based strategies to help ex-Muslims better understand and manage the psychological challenges that can accompany leaving Islam. We’ve also been able to organise a one-day conference in September on freedom of conscience, women’s resistance to religious authoritarianism, and recovery from religious trauma.

On Saturday 26 September, we’ll gather in central London to explore these themes and mark the launch of Leaving to Live: A Psychoeducational Guide for Ex-Muslims, Dr Savin Bapir-Tardy’s new book, developed through years of work with CEMB’s support groups.

It will also stand in support of Moroccan feminist and atheist Ibtissame Betty Lachgar, jailed in Morocco over a t-shirt. Her lawyer and sister will join us in paying tribute to her work and demanding her freedom. The conference will be a chance to exchange ideas, build solidarity, and strengthen the ex-Muslim movement as we approach CEMB’s 20th anniversary in June 2027.
